According to Acts 2:30 "FRUIT of his LOINS" "FRUIT" in Scripture doesn't always mean apples 🙂. Why did Adam and Eve make "themselves aprons" in Genesis 3? They should have just made mask 😷, IF the just sinned with their mouths. Let the Scripture interpret Scripture 😃. God bless!

Have you heard of The Fathers of the Church: An Introduction to the First Christian Teachers? I just found it for $8 and decided to take a chance on it being close to the materials I’ve been looking for. It’s only $15 new on CB. “ We hear the voices of the early Church Fathers even today. Their teachings, their guidance, their insights, and their sacrifice shaped the Catholic Church. They defined the canon of Scripture. They developed our creeds and forms of worship. They defined Christianity's distinctive moral sense. But who were they? What can we learn from their ancient teachings? What can the Fathers teach the 21st century - about holiness, culture, faith, and the Gospel. This is the definitive resource for anyone interested in learning about the Church Fathers and their legacy. Ideal for RCIA, catechists, clergy, as well as lay Catholics who want to learn more about the great teachers of early Christianity.” ISBN-13: 9781612785615

Thanks for this ongoing series! I really need to make the time to read Burgon's works at some point. The raw data that he compiled alone is invaluable in proving the verity of the Received Text of the scriptures, and his point about the factors leading to the loss of the older faithful copies while the relatively newer "oldest" yet patently fraudulent and corrupt manuscripts extant survived is all the more salient and dare I say willfully ignored (if not outright rejected) by modern "scholarship". I'm sure that I must have heard it from another, but I'm glad to know the source of the thought behind the apparently "older" isn't necessarily better conclusion.

The very fact that The Messiah ( God's anointed Son) is saying here "GOD and His Spirit has SENT me" is confirmation, not of a 'trinity' of three equel entities, but of a SUBORDINATE Son who was ANOINTED BY the Father ( at his baptism Matt 3:16,17) At which time GOD poured HIS Spirit on Jesus, without which he was powerless! As Jesus confessed "I do NOTHING of mine own" ( John 5:19 ) Amen! No 'trinity here!

I would surmise that the larger number (for which I can't find a verifiable scholarly reference) is an estimate of the total number of variances, including "non-meaningful" spelling changes, between the whole of the eclectic critical text (the UBS Leningrad Codex-based Biblica Hebraica and the NA Alexandrian codices-based Novum Testamentum Graece) and the Received Text (the Hebrew Aleppo Codex-based Masoretic text and the primarily Greek Textus Receptus-based representation of the Byzantine textform) underlying the AV/KJV, while the smaller number is one claim by the proponents supporting the eclectic critical text of the number of "viable and meaningful" differences between Vaticanus and Sinaiticus in the gospels. In contrast, D. A. Waite counted 9,970 total variances between both codices together and the Greek Received Text, Burgon listed 7,578 variances for Vaticanus and 8,972 variances for Sinaiticus between the two codices, while Herman Hoskier listed 3,036 non-iotic (consequential non-vowel-based spelling changes, that is, not like the "changes" that are similar to that which we see in the orthographic updates in AV/KJV from the first editions to the present) differences between them.

@@joshuaa3075Thank you for that reference: the transcript of that presentation isn't available online, thus making finding it difficult at best (I went to the website of the King James Bible Research Council, but there is nothing on the website that would make it possible to find that citation). From the video that you've referenced, the presenter David Brown, at 24:53-27:18, noted that according to D.C. Parker, author of "Codex Sinaiticus: Story of the World's Oldest Bible", there are as many as 27,000 corrections to the text, while according to Scot McKendrick, former Head of Western Heritage Collections at the British Library, there are 35,000 corrections and edits in Sinaiticus. These "corrections" include additions of words to the text, deletions of words from the text, substitutions of one word for another within the text and the changing of the order of two or more words within the text.

Luke 16:19 "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

What youre saying here is somewhat incorrect. It is a mainstream part of Judaism that there are relationships between the numerical values of words and how things are interpreted. These things are true, and many of them point to Jesus christ being the Messiah. The Some of these teachings are in the new testament itself, such as the concept of a new Jerusalem, or the numerical value of the geneology in Matthew (14 generation times three. 14 is the number for david, and multiplied by 3 is the number 42 which is the number of messiah). I do agree however that thete are also bad elements within kaballah, and it should never be used to conyradict the pshat (plain meaning) of the text.

May I humbly submit: Each individual person has a mind, a body, and a soul/spirit made in the image of God. The three are required to be one complete "person," not three distinct persons. The mind can affect/communicate with the body, the spirit with the mind, and the body affect the mind and spirit, yet the three are one person which cannot exist without the three elements. This is what is meant "made in the image of God." "I and the Father are one," thus said Jesus. Jesus said the Father is greater than I, meaning the corruptible body at the moment he uttered the words was to die in this corrupted world, which he later overcame with a new incorruptible resurrected body, the promise for us all. Our material bodies, and all creation, came into being by the Word, and God physically, with an incorruptible body, walked in the Garden of Eden with Adam, and visited Abraham before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, God is Mind, Body, and Spirit, One Person, One God. Amen.

If Baptism is critical to be saved and on the critical path for eternal life, why wouldnt Paul baptize or.Xhrist for that matter? In fact Paul said he did not come to Baptize but to preach the gospel. If Baptism is the gospel, Paul would have done it or at least stressed its.critical component to salvation but he did not. The few verses on Baptism were addressed to the Jewish audience. Paul was the.Apostle to the Gentiles. The Book of John is replete with scripture on Belief in the one who was Gods sacrifice for sins. His blood is our remission for sins bit we must trust that his work was the only acceptable offering God required.

The one they thought Melchizedek was, not to mention John the baptizer, his leanings are very similar to the community at Qumran.

It is interesting the history of how the churches and almost all translations other than the KJV/NKJV came to be based on the W&H documents. First, the German higher criticism of the Bible was welcomed into the British universities and Anglican churches around 1835-1845. This teaching entered the American academia in the 1960s. During this time, the Textus Receptus was THE standard for all churches, except for the Vulgate, which was used in conjuction with the KJV to produce the revised Douay-Rheims which was approved by Rome as the official Bible of English Roman Catholics until 1943. The first published Wescott-Hort Text in the United States was the 1901 American Standard Version, which was the basis of the Revised Standard Version and its Catholic edition in the 1950s. This was started as in 1870 in Britain to revise the KJV according to the Wescott-Hort documents. The Revised Version was published in the 1880s in Britain and America. Nearly all texts since have been influenced by Wescott-Hort. This includes the translations from Nestle-Aland versions as they use texts found in the "majority" of documents, which includes those from Wescott-Hort. During the development of the Revised Version, numerous scholars from Presbyterians, Methodists, Quakers, Episcopalians, Unitarians, and more were involved. By this time, the Unitarian church was only "Christian" in the most nominal way and was soon to become the Unitarian Universalist church as we know it today. The Social Gospel, the belief that man could be perfected by perfecting his institutions and eliminating poverty and other inducements to depravity, was also the popular burgeoning belief that commenced in the 1870s. Thus, the new "Bible" slipped into churches via the vary populous mainline denominations that helped with the revision and whose academic institutions were rife with higher criticism. The Fundamentalist-Modernist split in the 1920s locked the new Wescott-Hort texts in the slowly compromising mainline, while Roman Catholics, Pentecostals, Holiness churches, and Baptists used Texus Receptus influenced Bibles. The Amplified Version and Revised Standard Version were 1950s revisions of the Revised Version that was intended to appeal to the "Neo-Evangelicals" under the influence of Billy Graham as the came out of the "backwards" Fundamentalists, and Latter Rain/Charismaticism began to make their influence felt. Nestle and Aland were also not happy with the TR, but wanted to avoid the modernism of Wescott and Hort while maintaining their higher criticism of Scripture. So they created a version based on the "majority" of texts, without regard for age or continuity. Thus, through their work, the Wescott-Hort variants influenced the creations of such versions as the NIV. I have listened to a number of videos about the topic and double checked som of my approximate dates by quick research, but the information I give is abhorrently abbreviated. Suffice it to say that the Texus Receptus is only accepted among Oneness Pentecostals, some Holiness churches, and some Fundamentalists. Almost every other church body uses a Wescott-Hort text.
